Blisters are small bumps filled with water which develop when your skin keeps rubbing against something. When you wear ill-fitting shoes your feet will show signs of blister formation. The skin first becomes tender, then sore and finally blisters pop up. This is due to the excessive pressure caused by the tight footwear, which injures the skin.
Blister Symptoms
- Pain and warmth in the affected area
- Burning sensation
- Thin-walled and tender swelling filled with watery fluid
- Redness and irritation
Natural Home Remedies for Treating Blister
Since blisters are due to abnormal pressure on the skin, the first thing to do is to stop whatever behavior is causing the blisters to form. There are a number of excellent natural remedies for this condition, some of which I have listed below.
Homemade blister foot powder - In a blender combine a half-cup of white clay powder, a half-cup of cornstarch powder, a quarter-cup of powdered peppermint leaves, a quarter-cup of powdered sage leaves and a half teaspoon of clove essential oil. Once blended, the mix can be stored in a cool dry place. Dust the powder on to your blistered feet and into your socks as well. It has high absorbency and will soak up moisture as well as keep friction at bay by its lubricant actions.
Homemade blister foot cream - In a bowl, whisk together a half-cup of vegetable shortening, a teaspoon of eucalyptus oil and a teaspoon of peppermint or camphor oil. Store the blended mixture in a small glass or plastic container and refrigerate. Use it on the affected areas every day. Remember to wear thick socks after application to reduce friction between your shoes and your feet.
