Bunions

Bunions are small red bumps that appear generally on the inner side of the base of the big toes. They chiefly occur due to the extended use of tight shoes that constrict the toes, or due to faulty foot structures. In the latter situation, bunions can cause great pain and discomfort, making surgical correction a necessity.

Symptoms of Bunions

Bunions are painful bumps that induce symptoms like reddening, burning, stinging pain, discomfort, aching and inflammation.

Natural Home Remedies for Treating Bunions

Treating bunions at home requires a degree of dedicated effort and considerable time. The following conventional home treatments have provided relief to many people. However, if your symptoms linger even after you have tried natural remedies, it would be best to seek medical advice from an expert podiatrist.

Application of cold compression and ice pack - Use cold compresses or an ice pack several times a day for ten minutes at a time at least, over your bunions. This usually provides great relief and comfort.

Aloe Vera Gel - You could try applying aloe vera gel in the affected area to soothe the burning and irritation. Aloe vera is a potent antiseptic with superb anti-inflammatory properties. If you happen to have an aloe vera plant at home, cut a piece off the fleshy leaf, and rub the exposed gel-like interior on the bunion. . Some Additional Tips to Deal with Bunions

1. Wear floaters or flip-flops since they have a good arch support system. This helps to reduce the pressure on your toes. Make sure the flip-flops you buy are comfortable and well-fitting, and have good supporting straps to support your toes. Also make sure you wear them all the time so your big toes are always protected. 2. Use a gel or silicone toe spreader while wearing your flip-flops. The spreader provides a soft padded support to the toe which has the bunion. Some flip-flops even come with inbuilt gel-padded systems positioned strategically inside the straps to help reduce friction while walking. 3. Selecting a good pair of socks is also important when you have bunions. Socks act to reduce friction and provide a cushioned support to your painful bunions. There are many custom-made socks available which are designed for this condition, and they will act much better than your regular ones to give your bunions maximum protection for your bunion. 4. Use special bunion pads made from silicon or gel to give padded protection to your big toes. 5. There are also toe separators and splints available for bunions, which you can place between your toes to protect h them from rubbing against each other. These toe separators are available in both gel and silicone forms. 6. Use special stretchable shoes for bunions. These unique shoes are designed to be elastic so as to provide great comfort and breathing space for your feet. They also help greatly to reduce pressure on your toes.
